2. Objectives of the intervention
Goals of the intervention
The main goal of the project was to create impressive external appearances for the cafe, while the interesting interiors provide sufficient illumination. The additional objectives were to use green to improve air quality, reduce the energy consumption of the building and to provide natural protection from the weather (5).
Quantitative targets
Area: 300 m² (3)
Weight: < 30kg per m²
Plants: 2600 plants from 66 different species (5)

The use of green will improve air quality, reduce energy consumption of the building, and provide natural protection from the weather. (5)
Novelty level of the innovation

French botanist and vertical landscape designer Patrick Blanc has promoted the concept of vertical gardens (in French Le Mur Vegetal) internationally. Blanc has been responsible for the design previously of the world-famous living wall at the Paris Musée du Quai Branly. (5)

It is suggested that his system of vertical gardens can be used anywhere - from the external facades of buildings and for air-conditioned interiors. It is a three-component system based on the PVC layer, felt and metal frame - this provides a grid without soil that is light enough to be able to hang on the wall. The weight of the system is less than 30 kilograms per square meter. (5) This is otherwise known as the "synthetic felt" structural system for living facades. (7) This system has been replicated on many structures both before and since this intervention, beginning with the living wall of the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris 1986, and has since been used on projects such as the Green Bridge at Century Museum of Contemporary Art, in Kanazawa 2012 and the living wall at PAMM Pérez Art Museum in Miami 2013.
