2. Objectives of the intervention
Goals of the intervention
The main goals of the project include:
- building a residential complex with 650 apartments for the purpose of investment;
- standing out of the average new-built residential complexes in many ways (Reference 1);
- creating an impressive, visually appealing building;
- having green as a dominant feature of the buildings;
- creating a unity of the building and greenery (Reference 2);
- help with local climate regulation (Reference 6);
- address air quality regulation;
- improve water management.

Quantitative targets
- 170 trees will be planted on the facades of the four building blocks;
- three kilometres of shrubbery (some 10,000 plants) in window-boxes running along with the balconies;
- smaller plants will also be planted in the stone boxes around the trunks of the trees;
- the dozens of trees and hundreds of bushes will be planted in the streets surrounding the buildings (Reference 2).

Implementation activities
Extensive green roofs have been implemented on all four buildings to improve air quality, create green spaces and improve the thermal insulation quality of the buildings. A rainwater collection system has also been installed with the goal of utilizing rainwater for irrigation and decreasing the strain on the drainage systems. More than 4,600 shrubs and 300 trees were planted. (Reference 6) The investors planted a diverse selection of plant species, with the goal of appearing natural, as they would appear in a natural ecosystem. (Reference 2)

5. Innovation
Type of innovation
Please specify technological innovation
The project applies a relatively new concept of vertical forest on the facades of the building, which is originated from Milan. Metrodom Panorama is the first attempt for planting trees on balconies, which required the development of special building structure and technology for the sustainability of trees (Reference 3). As the documents of the project explain: "[t]rees will be planted in one cubic meter pots, the diameter of window-boxes for the shrubbery is 40x40 cms in size providing lot more space and soil for the vegetation to grow taller than in traditional window-boxes. Multi-circuit automated irrigation system provides for water and nutrient supply, residents do not have to (and must not) attend to and cultivate the vegetation" (Reference 2).

The intervention was inspired by the "bosco verticale" in Milan (Reference 3).
