The first one was in 1987 when the land was bought by the municipality and made into the park (Ref 2 and 3). The second one was in 2012 by covering a green space around the powder factory (Ref 5). Another one was the inclusion of a new green labyrinth was installed in 2017 (Ref 4). The last one was in 2020 when a new botanical garden will be created on the island, with an open-air gym and a children's area (Ref 8).

These would be connected by a system of parks for city circulation and citizen health and well-being. The Salitre Park is part of this network. (ref 6)

Type of innovation
Please specify technological innovation
The innovation is seen in the main architect Cesar Cort’s proposal to create different urban units, within the urban sphere. These would be connected by a system of parks for city circulation and citizen health and well-being. The Salitre Park is part of this network and since this approach was proposed in the first decade of the 20th century, it was very innovative proposal for the city's green infrastructure. (ref 6)
Please specify novelty level of the innovation
The architect who first proposed it was influenced by Central European city planning, and the concept of the Garden-City. Thus, these architectural approaches were adapted to the city fabric of Murcia. (ref 6)

Impacts, benefits
Description of environmental benefits
The park's environmental benefits are mostly related to the improved form of water irrigation, as well as the increased green areas and achieved biodiversity protection by planting more species (Ref 4).
From the 2020 rehabilitation measures, the new benefits are also biodiversity conservation and the development of a green corridor as a result of the unification of parks that these final infrastructure constructions achieved (Ref 8).
Economic impacts
Description of economic benefits
Unknown
