BIO.FOR.POLIS. Tutela Ed Incremento Della Biodiversità E Dei Servizi Eco-Sistemici E Sociali Delle Foreste Nell’area Metropolitana Napoli-Caserta
Short description of the intervention
BIO.FOR.POLIS is a project for the cities of Caserta and Napoli, aiming at improving the biodiversity of the two forests under study. Their projects deal with the construction of streams within the Castelvolturno forest to connect the different parts of it. The two forest areas localized within an urban environment aim to improve the conditions of the ecosystems in a condition of human pressure. This is explicitly considered as a climate mitigation strategy. (Ref.1.)

This is expected to produce environmental benefits and to mitigate the impact of human activity (Ref.1.)

Impacts, benefits
Description of environmental benefits
The project is still ongoing and has published 2 studies on biodiversity but not final reports that can express the impacts of the NBS. Even so, the intervention is expected to produce positive effects in terms of mitigating the effects of urban air pollution and carbon sequestration in a polluted area. At the same time, the park is home of several species of animals and plants which will benefit from the initiative by reducing biodiversity loss (1). In addition, the project enhances the participation of disadvantaged parts of the population (Ref. Interview 1.)
The project produced 2 studies about the biodiversity of the area. 268,14 hectares were studied and many plants and species were observed with conclusions such as the re-emergence of species that left Italy 42 years ago. (5)
