Short description of the intervention
On a yearly basis, the city of Zagreb, Zagrebački holding plants new trees and bushes to maintain Zagreb as a green city with 114 hectares of green spaces (Ref 2). Also includes maintenance of green surfaces, such as grass in public parks along with tram tracks and planting new trees and maintaining existing ones next to kindergartens and schools (Ref 2). Maintenance of city parks, lawns and tree lines includes cleaning, mowing and collecting grass and garbage from green areas, restoration of trampled lawns, maintenance and pruning of trees, shrubs and hedges, maintenance and care of seasonal and permanent flower beds, maintenance of paved and dune areas in parks and installation and maintenance of urban equipment in parks and children's playgrounds (Ref 1).

Goals of the intervention
The main objective of the implementation is to keep the city green and maintain its greeneries. Yearly maintenance and planting of new trees, bushes and flowers in Zagreb. Also includes maintenance of green surfaces, such as grass in public parks, along tram tracks, and planting new trees and maintaining existing ones next to kindergartens, schools (Ref 2). The scope of the maintenance also including maintenance of the amenities provided by the green spaces like the benches, rubbish bins, picnic tables, fences and posts. With this project, the city of Zagreb aims to protect its green spaces (Ref 1).

In 2015, trees and a meadow around the school and kindergarten in Kajzerica were planted, playground in Stari Jelkovci was renovated, grassland in Voltino Naselje was revitalised .
Removed rotten trees on Dubravkin Put and planted new trees on the same location. In total, planted of 500 new trees and 800 bushes. (1)

Description of environmental benefits
The project planted 500 trees and 800 bushes. The project is implemented on a yearly basis restoring the green spaces in and around the city. This helps in sequestrating CO2, reducing local temperature and enhancing the air quality. This also helps in maintaining the species diversity (Ref 1, 2).

The main objective of the project is to increase the amount of green space around the city of Zagreb. This helps the locals to connect more with nature. An increased number of parks also provide amenities like sitting arrangement and picnic tables. This allows the citizens to spend more time outdoors in natural surroundings which increases their physical and mental health and the livability of their neighbourhood.
The project also includes planting trees in school premises thereby encouraging students to engage more with nature and to understand the benefits of NBS.
