Short description of the intervention
In 2014, a high school in the center of Craiova decided to transform a part of its space into a vegetable garden, National Pedagogical College "Stefan Velovan". The initiative is the only one implemented in the region and aims not only at teaching children about the benefits of bio food but also aims to save consumption costs (1, 3).

Goals of the intervention
1. To offer hands-on, experiential learning opportunities;
2. To foster a connection to nature so it can raise awareness;

3. Maintain the 2000 trees already existing there: 1600 are forest trees and 400 are apple, pear, prune trees;

Implementation activities
In 2013 the place was refurbished, 2 greenhouses were installed and the already existing tree were cleaned. The high school students participated at this operation but they also had help from the university students at the local university.

Description of environmental benefits
The NBS did not report any benefits. It seems this was a small initiative that was done by the high school involved without any public institutional help (for example: municipality). Even so, it is noticeable that in the courtyard of the school through the NBS a derelict/abandoned area has been restored - about 4 ha. The initiators engaged in taking care of the area and in maintaining it (1)

Interview comments
I have already sent an e-mail to the school's director to ask about monitoring reports, As in regards of choosing No as in option for an EU directive or national/local plan there were not mentions of such associations. The director emphasized on the lack of official support.
