Impacts, benefits
Description of environmental benefits
The project has revitalised a wild, uninhabited piece of land with an unregulated pond, which had been a relict of a former cement factory (Portland Zementfabrik Züllchow) [6]. The goal of the project was to improve the aesthetics of the neighbourhood and provide a safe recreational area for the local community. The NBS has built an infrastructure that will increase public access to the green recreational area at the pond.(1)(2) There is no data regarding the environmental impacts available.
Description of economic benefits
The revitalisation project has been nominated as the best community-led project in a local competition "Mieszkam tu! – Mądre pomysły na mądre miasto (I live here! - Smart ideas for a smart city)". A simple google search shows a significant number of real estate investments in the area.
Description of social and cultural benefits
The project has revitalised a decaying wild and, therefore, an inaccessible area in a residential area inhabited by families with small children, but also senior citizens and the amateurs of fishing. After its completion, the project has been attracting numerous visitors who feel safe (regulated water pond, stairs, alleys and protected viewpoints, CCTV) and inclined toward spending more leisure time outdoors. The park is also a where children from the nearby kindergarten perform their outdoor activities, and elderly citizens enjoy a safe and accessible are for integration.
It has improved the quality of life for local residents by providing an attractive recreational and integrational area and a place for local festivities, the CCTV system has added to the prestige and the feeling of safety - all that has increased the attractiveness of the neighbourhood which is now referred to as "the most beautiful place of the northern Szczecin" [6].
