Cinque Terre: Planning and restoring coastal traditional agricultural landscape
The "PROSIT" project aimed at undertaking a series of actions based on environmentally compatible mechanisms to protect and recover the coastal rural territory of Cinque Terre. Today, the terraced landscape is characterised by intense processes of land abandonment and disuse, caused both by practical and economic difficulties of maintenance and by social changes. There is a risk that the damage caused by land abandonment can compromise the area's delicate hydrogeological balance, especially in an area where landslides and floods are highly common (1). A demonstration project to recover abandoned terraces was carried out in five areas of the park (1).
Green and sustainable urban development
The project was born from the purchasing of an ex-military area in the Flaminio neighbourhood and the decision to build a city of science with a museum, a public park and residential areas that will have green roofs and sustainable, energy-efficient building. The project was proposed to several architectural studios and the Studio 015 Paola Viganò is the one who got assigned the project in 2015 (3).
Due to changes in public administration and financing already found in 2017 (7), the project still has not started (2020), as in 2019 the citizens were once again consulted over the works and the project (7). Initially, the project should end in 2023 (should last 8 years) (4).

Marshes protection in the Laguna of Venice
LIFE VIMINE is a project that aimed to define and apply a new type of integrated approach to the management of the territory, based on the erosion protection of the most indigenous barns and marshes in the Laguna of Venice. These unique habitats are rapidly disappearing due to natural processes and human impacts of varying nature. The project has contributed to repair and protect salt marshes borders as soon as erosion starts, build micro soil bioengineering works that are able to absorb wave energy, reduce erosion, promote sedimentation with a low effort and cost and improve coastal resilience and protection (1).
Italy's Largest Living Wall
This vertical garden was created with the aim to integrate the shopping mall in the surrounding green. A total of 44.000 plants of 200 different species were used on a surface of 1.262 square meters, making it the largest living wall in the world (now in Italy) at the time it was created. The green wall has met large positive response both by the owners of the shopping mall, who noticed a decrease in their energy expenses, and by local residents, who can appreciate the aesthetic beauty of the wall and breathe fresher and cleaner air. Wild West End Project of Greening Wingrove
Formed by residents and local organisations, the original focus of Greening Wingrove & Arthur's Hill was to address issues of litter and flytipping in Wingrove. The informal association later became a Cooperative (Community Interest Company) (1,2). Since its formation, the organisation aims to clean and green its part of Newcastle's West End through a diverse set of activities (15). These include the development of a former bowling green to become a community bike garden and community hub; encouraging locals' action on litter, promoting greening and food growing and local stewardship (4)

The project is aiming to explore local natural heritage, with a focus on species currently at risk such as bats, birds (swifts and house martins) and hedgehogs with the inclusion of residents, schools and local communities. Besides mapping the status of these species, habitat creation is also an objective to prevent the further decline of these at risk species in the area (15, 16)

IKEA Green Roof Aasane
The roof of IKEA in Åsane outside Bergen covers 22,000 m2 and has been covered with plants since 2011. (Ref. 1) The green roof promotes biodiversity, cleanses the air from pollutants and acts an important flood prevention measure in the region, as Bergen experiences a lot of rainfall and is expected to receive more as a consequence of climate change over the coming decades. (Ref. 3,5) The roof has attracted a lot of birdlife, including endangered species. (Ref. 2)
Vertical Garden Wall at the J&T Bank Café
The Vertical Garden Wall situated at the J&T Bank Café Bratislava was constructed in 2010 as Bratislava's first vertical green wall. The green wall in the two-story J & T Bank Café is one of the most recent implementations of Patrick Blanc – botanist and the creator of Vertical Garden. The Café was designed by the architectural studio MIMOLIMIT, and has been realized under the supervision of AED project. The vertical garden consists of more than 2600 plants of 66 various species (3).
Greenroof, Office Building Münchener Rückversicherung
This office complex at 10 Gedonstrasse in Munich was completed in the spring of 2002 with a pre-grown Ceratodon purpureum green roof and living green wall panels. It uses a special technique called BRYOTEC Technology, which enables the producing of (plant) mosses for revitalization. The biological crusts of mosses which it produces play a very important role in engineered soil media stabilisation, accelerating the development of depleted soils/substrates for vegetation establishment.

Green wall for CITI Data Centre
The data centre for Citi Bank in Frankfurt is the first in the world to put sustainability at its heart, setting radical new standards in an industry at the forefront of the fight against global carbon emissions (1). The functional and aesthetic aspects, as well as their CO2 balance and later reusability, played a decisive role in the selection of all materials. Disguising the full volume of the data hall, the iconic green wall features indigenous plants and is fully irrigated by harvested rainwater. The wall, measuring some 55 m by 12 m high, complements the extensive green roof and helps maintain a constant building temperature throughout the year while reducing thermal gain in the summer months. Frankfurt airport indoor green walls
At the Frankfurt Airport, the departures hall of Terminal 2 features green walls measuring about 135 square meters and covered with live plants. The walls also provide oxygen from photosynthesis, improve acoustics, and reduce carbon dioxide concentrations and dust in the air (1).
The plants grow in special mats without soil and are automatically irrigated with the aid of a drainage system. Frankfurt Airport now sports various types of ferns, climbing plants, and spider plants. Flamingo flowers add dashes of red to the green sea. The hanging gardens are located in Concourses D and E.
