2. Objectives of the intervention
Goals of the intervention
The goals established for the project are:
- create a new image of the neighborhood, with specific focus on the connection between the city and the sea
- water management to promote the beauty of the landscape
- underline the importance of water and vegetation for climate mitigation of the area
- improve the mobility system
(Ref.4.)

Implementation activities
The redevelopment of the San Girolamo waterfront is an impressive work that has affected about 2km of coastline, creating a beach of about 12 meters.
For the offshore works, a partly submerged and partly emerging breakwater was created to protect the coast. The beach nourishment was also created to create the beaches: the two beaches at the ends are sandy, the two power plants are pebbly.
The ground works, nearing completion, concern the improvement of public spaces for citizens and have involved the construction of gardens, squares, walkways, a cycle path, a green belt of Mediterranean scrub, public lighting systems and white sewerage
The project also does not present architectural barriers and provides for the integration of the LVE (Loges Vet Evolution) system in the walkways.
Finally, the construction of a commercial area with premises to be assigned under concession and a square on the sea is planned. (Ref.6)

5. Innovation
Type of innovation
Please specify technological innovation
The innovation of the project consists in the mutual regeneration of both the water and the coastline, with a series of measures related to accessibility, implementation of green areas, plantation of specific plant species etc. are expected to have a positive impact on the visitors and the marine life (Ref.2.)
Novelty level of the innovation
Please specify novelty level of the innovation
Mention of a similar project implemented in Genoa, with a similar waterfront. It has transformed the whole coastal part of the city and regenerated economic activities. The planning process of the coastline is similar to the one in Genoa, in particular for the improved accessibility of the area and the presence plants and trees close to the pedestrian area (Ref.4.)
Replicability/Transferability
Please specify Replicability/Transferability
The city ogf Bari aims at extending this intervention to other coastal area of the city, if the project will be considered successfull. Concrete plans have not been made yet (Ref.3.)
